We welcome industry partners to jointly develop research and demonstration projects in indoor air quality, filtration, thermal filter disinfection, and regenerative air treatment. Our goal is to address practical challenges in buildings and restoration settings through measurable performance improvements and technology development.
Our University of Alberta team brings experience in prototype development, experimental testing, airflow and thermal modelling, and air-quality monitoring. Our work includes AirSanix, which combines filtration with isolated thermal treatment of captured microorganisms, and AirSanix+, which adds adsorption and thermal regeneration for volatile organic compound (VOC) management.
Potential collaboration areas include: • Evaluating filtration, microbial inactivation, and VOC removal performance. • Developing and testing regenerable adsorbent media. • Integrating air-treatment modules into residential and commercial HVAC systems. • Demonstrating portable systems for restoration and other demanding indoor environments. • Measuring air-quality improvements, energy use, pressure drop, maintenance needs, and operating costs. • Improving system design, controls, and scalability.
We seek HVAC and filtration manufacturers, building owners, facility operators, restoration companies, materials suppliers, and research organizations. Partners may contribute funding, technical expertise, equipment, materials, or access to suitable pilot sites, and help define performance targets and practical deployment requirements.
Projects will be developed around partner needs, with an appropriate funding program identified jointly. Direct industry-sponsored research and collaborative grant applications are both welcome, subject to eligibility and institutional requirements. Research activities and any commercial deployment involving ABClean Air Solutions Ltd. will be scoped with the relevant parties.
This is an ongoing invitation to develop collaborations. Project scope, partner contributions, funding applications, and timelines will be agreed together. Please contact us with your challenge, proposed application or pilot site, and desired outcomes.
The University of Alberta is a large, comprehensive public research university in Edmonton with multiple campuses and a strong applied research culture. Industry engages through co-located labs and pilot-scale facilities, as well as established co-op and internship programs that place talent with partners year-round. Integration with Alberta’s province-wide hospital system supports clinical research and accelerates translation. Companies also benefit from proximity to regional industry clusters and collaboration hubs on and near campus for joint R&D and prototyping. Supported by NSERC, CIHR, SSHRC, and Canada Foundation for Innovation funding—plus provincial and industry support—the tech transfer office manages IP, licensing, and startup formation with streamlined sponsored-research agreements.
