The core of this technology is a multilayer coextrusion of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and NOVA Chemicals' HPs667ab barrier high-density polyethylene (HDPE), further enhanced with mineralized additives. This configuration achieves very low moisture vapor transmission rates (MVTR) of less than 1g/100"/24hrs at a thin coat weight of approximately 25 micrometers. This ensures compatibility with standard conversion and packaging equipment, making it a versatile solution for various packaging applications. The materials are FDA-approved for food contact and are commercially available, ensuring immediate applicability.
This technology is at TRL 5, having been validated in trials on commercial equipment and accepted in certain end applications. Further coating trials with converting partners are planned to refine processing techniques and expand application opportunities. Samples are available, and rollstock can be provided for further testing and evaluation.
