Innovative solution integrating ultrasonication and water conditioning to enhance dispersion of powdered natural colorants, minimizing foam and preserving color integrity for industrial applications.

Overview

The proposed solution revolutionizes the dispersion of powdered natural colorants by integrating advanced ultrasonication with water conditioning techniques. This method addresses common challenges in industrial mixing, such as agglomeration and foam formation, which often lead to poor dispersion and color loss. By utilizing a pre-slurry preparation process and applying pulsed ultrasonication under controlled conditions, this solution achieves rapid, uniform dispersion with minimal foaming and no loss of color intensity, making it ideal for food and cosmetic industries.

Technical specifications

Key features:

  • Pre-slurry preparation: Powdered colorants are first mixed in deaerated, temperature-controlled water with low concentrations of food-grade wetting agents to reduce interfacial tension.
  • Controlled ultrasonication: Pulsed ultrasonication is applied to disrupt agglomerates and accelerate foam collapse through cavitation and microstreaming.
  • Optimized conditions: Active cooling and careful control of process parameters ensure minimal foaming and preservation of pigment integrity.
  • Analytical validation: Dispersion performance is evaluated using particle size distribution, turbidity, foam decay kinetics, and color analysis.
Technology readiness level

This solution is currently at Technology Readiness Level 4, indicating that it has been validated in a laboratory environment and is ready for further development and scaling for industrial applications. Future validation efforts will focus on refining processing parameters and scaling the solution for broader industrial use.
