Developing natural isoflavone compounds that mimic estrogen to promote hair growth by binding to estrogen receptors in hair follicles. These compounds show excellent safety profiles and binding efficiency, with promising results from computational and in vitro studies.

Overview

This innovative research focuses on developing natural isoflavone compounds that mimic the action of estrogen to enhance hair growth. Estrogen plays a crucial role in stimulating hair follicle growth, but its levels decrease during conditions like menopause, postpartum, and PCOD, leading to hair loss. By using pharmacophore models, the research identifies isoflavone compounds that effectively bind to estrogen receptors in hair follicles, promoting hair growth without adverse side effects.

Technical specifications

Key features:

  • Isoflavone compounds mimic estrogen by binding to estrogen receptors in hair follicles.
  • Computational analysis shows a strong binding affinity with a docking score of -9.686 Kcal/mol.
  • These compounds exhibit excellent ADMET properties, ensuring safety and efficacy.
  • Derived from an in-house database of 65,000 natural lead compounds with high potential for hair growth promotion.

Validation procedures:

  • Initial in-silico studies demonstrate promising results with remarkable stability and binding affinity in long-term simulations (500ns).
  • Future in-vitro analyses will involve saturation binding assays and competitive binding assays to determine binding affinities and safety profiles.
Technology readiness level

This technology is currently at TRL 3, having undergone promising computational and initial safety profiling. Future steps include extensive in-vitro validation to move towards higher TRLs and potential commercial applications.

About R.V. College of Engineering

RV College of Engineering (RVCE) is an autonomous, self‑financing engineering institution in Bengaluru, affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University and accredited NAAC A+. It connects to industry through an active Industry Institute Interaction Cell, 150+ MoUs, and co‑located, industry‑sponsored labs and Centers of Excellence that enable joint training, prototyping, and upskilling on campus. Proximity to Bengaluru’s technology cluster supports internships, capstone co‑supervision, and consultancy engagements throughout the year. Research here is supported by competitive national programs and industry, including DRDO/NRB, AICTE, and ISRO collaborations. An IP Coordination Cell, together with incubation resources and a student‑run Entrepreneurship Development Cell, assists with patenting, licensing, and venture formation.
