The solution involves a multi-layer design combining PET and PVOH layers, with the addition of Nickel Ferrite magnetic nanoparticles to enhance mechanical and gas barrier properties. This design aims to significantly reduce the costs associated with PET while maintaining or improving the bottle's structural integrity and performance.
Technical specifications
The proposed solution consists of a three-layer preform structure: PET-PVOH-PET. PVOH, known for its excellent gas barrier properties, is cost-effective and recyclable. By increasing the crystallinity of PVOH through heat treatment, its humidity sensitivity is reduced, enhancing its barrier effectiveness. Integrating Nickel Ferrite nanoparticles in the PET or PVOH layers and aligning them using magnetic fields during the molding process results in a nanocomposite with superior mechanical properties. This method improves stiffness, strength, and damage resistance during the hot fill process.

The technology readiness level of this solution is currently at stage 2. Future validation plans include collaboration with beverage giants and resin suppliers to optimize material selection and processing conditions. The aim is to refine the production process with electromagnets to maximize performance and cost savings.
