Develop a lignin-based photostabilizer for full-spectrum UV absorption in agrochemicals, enhancing stability and environmental sustainability. Ionic liquid modification enables UV protection, solubility in organic solvents, and compliance with safety standards.
This innovative lignin-based photostabilizer is designed for full-spectrum UV absorption in agrochemical formulations, addressing UV-induced degradation. By chemically modifying lignin with ionic liquids to introduce UV-absorbing groups, this solution provides protection across 280–420 nm, ensuring compatibility with organic solvents and environmental sustainability. Derived from renewable biomass, it aligns with green chemistry principles and regulatory safety standards, offering a non-toxic, cost-effective alternative to traditional photostabilizers.
Key features:
Currently at TRL 4, this technology has undergone initial laboratory validation, including lignin dissolution, chemical modification, and preliminary UV absorption testing. Future phases will focus on characterization, formulation testing, and safety evaluations to advance its readiness for commercial deployment.
Nanjing Agricultural University is a public research university with an agricultural focus in Nanjing, advancing national and regional priorities through integrated basic-to-applied research and field training. Industry engages through experimental farms, field stations, controlled-environment facilities, and pilot processing spaces for prototyping and scale‑up. An industry liaison team supports sponsored research, testing services, and joint labs, while regional demonstration sites speed on‑farm trials across the Yangtze River Delta. Research is supported by national and provincial programs, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Ministry of Science and Technology. A technology transfer office manages IP, licensing, and startup incubation.
