A cost-effective imaging system utilizing AI and 3D reconstruction techniques to enhance greenhouse monitoring, enabling data-driven decisions and sustainable practices.

Overview

The proposed solution is a low-cost imaging and monitoring system for greenhouses designed to provide real-time, remote monitoring of plant health and environmental conditions. By integrating low-resolution cameras, AI-driven analysis, and 3D reconstruction techniques, this system delivers comprehensive digital insights to optimize greenhouse management. The system supports sustainable agricultural practices by enabling precise, data-driven decisions and prioritizing areas that require immediate attention.

Technical specifications
  • Imaging and Reconstruction: Utilizes low-cost cameras such as the Arducam OV2640 2MP to capture images for Structure-from-Motion (SfM) processing, creating 3D point clouds.
  • AI Analysis: Employs pre-trained and fine-tuned AI models to analyze plant health, providing intelligent reports.
  • Energy and Connectivity: Solar panels with battery backup ensure continuous operation, while AWS IoT Core facilitates scalable and secure data storage.
  • User Interface: A React.js-based web dashboard and a mobile app offer real-time monitoring and alerts, enhancing user accessibility and interaction.
  • Privacy and Security: Includes AI-driven image anonymization, data encryption, and access controls to protect user data.
Technology readiness level

Currently at TRL 3, the system is in the development and prototyping phase. A two-phase validation plan is in place: Phase 1 focuses on R&D and prototype development, while Phase 2 involves pilot deployments in greenhouses to refine the system and ensure compliance with privacy and security standards.
