A flexible, low-cost imaging and monitoring system using off-the-shelf components for greenhouse management. The system automates data collection and analysis for crop health and resource management, adaptable with various imaging technologies.
The proposed solution is a low-cost imaging and monitoring system designed to enhance efficiency in greenhouse crop and environmental management. This innovative system, developed as the Spatio-Temporal Evaluator for Low Labor Automation (STELLA), utilizes off-the-shelf components to provide automated data collection and management of greenhouse resources. The system is particularly valuable in assessing crop health and operational conditions, thereby aiding in timely decision-making and resource optimization.
Key features:
The technology is currently at TRL 4, having demonstrated functionality in a controlled laboratory environment with a prototype system. Future plans involve expanding the system to various greenhouse configurations and enhancing imaging payloads to cater to different applications. Partnerships are sought to assist in system replication, development guidance, and funding for personnel.
The University of Florida is a comprehensive public research university with a broad academic and research portfolio and a statewide presence. Industry collaborates through co-located labs and shared core facilities and through an integrated academic health system that accelerates clinical translation. A statewide extension network and multiple research and education sites connect companies with field-scale testing and rapid deployment, while incubators and an adjacent innovation district provide pathways from lab to market. Research is supported by competitive funding from major federal agencies such as NIH, NSF, USDA, and DOE. A dedicated technology transfer office supports IP, licensing, and startup formation.
