We are developing a low-power bioreactor that uses low-cost, single use biodegradable bags to maintain sterility and manage oxygen transfer. We have cultured E. coli in a 2L version of the system to a OD of 10.75 in a batch fermentation. We are integrating a ~$10,000 sensor stack that will continuously monitor cell growth, PH, lactate, temperature, DO, and other metrics, feed them to an AWS environment for training of our physics informed digital twin. The digital twin will use reinforcement learning to develop an algorithm that will use real-time data off the sensors to provide adaptive feed-rate control to optimize OD using a connected peristaltic pump. Once validated we will scale the geometry of the reactor and validate the system with additional organisms.
