This innovative solution aims to recycle spent sulfuric peroxide by employing a low-temperature hybrid purification train. It efficiently recovers high-purity sulfuric acid while removing impurities, making it suitable for industries requiring acid reuse.
The proposed solution focuses on the recycling of spent sulfuric peroxide mixtures through a novel low-temperature hybrid purification train. This process enables the efficient recovery of sulfuric acid with high purity, making it particularly valuable for industries that require acid reuse. By avoiding high-temperature distillation and combustion, the approach significantly reduces contamination risks and operational hazards.
The purification train comprises several key stages: acid-compatible prefiltration, controlled hydrogen peroxide destruction, and vacuum-assisted concentration at temperatures below 100°C. It incorporates membrane-assisted acid recovery and impurity rejection using diffusion or electrodialysis. Additionally, it involves chelating and cation-exchange resin polishing to remove trace metals, along with optional adsorbent or carbon polishing for total organic carbon and reducing species. The final stage includes submicron filtration to ensure ultra-high-purity acid recovery. This modular system is designed for flexibility and ease of integration with existing waste management processes.
The current technology readiness level is 3. A 12-month proof-of-concept study is underway to validate the approach using bench-scale feasibility studies. This involves screening and integrating the best membranes and components, with external validation to ensure the achievement of purity targets and operational stability.
