Safe and inexpensive metabolite-based self-assembling delivery system for laundry detergents. Uses amino acids, nucleobases, and vitamins to form stable supramolecular assemblies that can encapsulate and release detergent actives, offering a non-toxic alternative to conventional encapsulation technologies.
This research offers a novel encapsulation and delivery platform for laundry detergents using safe, inexpensive metabolites such as amino acids, nucleobases, and vitamins. These naturally occurring building blocks are inherently non-toxic, readily available, and low-cost, yet they can be engineered to form stable supramolecular self- and co-assemblies. By tailoring metabolite combinations and assembly conditions, the technology enables the design of delivery systems matched to specific detergent specifications, providing a sustainable and consumer-safe alternative to traditional polymer-based or surfactant-based encapsulation methods used in the laundry care industry.
The underlying science has been extensively validated through peer-reviewed publications on metabolite self- and co-assemblies, including studies on non-canonical architectures and unique physical properties. The team is recognized as a pioneer and authority in metabolite nanostructure research. Future work involves high-throughput screening to identify metabolite combinations compatible with specific detergent and laundry formulations, followed by fine-tuning of assembly conditions, structural characterization, and stability and release profile optimization in laundry solutions. The technology is at an early-to-mid research stage, ready for sponsored research collaboration to advance toward application-specific validation.
