Micro-head: the smart liquid-handling add-on for collaborative robots

The MICRO-HEAD is a microfluidic dispensing head that turns a collaborative robot into a flexible, high-precision liquid-handling platform. Multiple individually controlled pneumatic channels enable accurate dosing and mixing from microliters up to milliliters. Operated via standard industrial control systems and a universal robot interface, MICRO-HEAD integrates seamlessly into existing lab and production environments and offers a low-threshold entry into automation. Unlike conventional liquid-handling setups with separate pumps, valve blocks and peripheral devices, MICRO-HEAD brings fluid management and process functions directly into the robot toolhead. Each fluidic port can host multiple independently controllable channels for liquids or gases, and modular plug-and-play attachments integrate operations such as mixing, washing, incubation or filtration. This compact, microfluidic architecture reduces system complexity and footprint and enables fully integrated, on-board sample preparation and analysis.

Reusable or low-cost disposable wetted parts support contamination control and rapid changeovers, making MICRO-HEAD a scalable, cost-effective platform for adaptable µL–mL workflows.
