This innovative solution utilizes microalgae cultivation to capture CO2 from industrial emissions, significantly reducing carbon footprints while producing valuable biomass for bioproducts. It targets up to 360 tons of CO2 sequestration per hectare annually.

Overview

Aligma Pte. Ltd. presents an innovative solution leveraging microalgae cultivation to effectively sequester CO2 emissions from industrial flue gases. This approach not only reduces the carbon footprint of industrial activities but also produces valuable biomass that can be utilized across various bioproducts. The solution is designed to sequester up to 360 tons of CO2 per hectare annually, with a biomass yield of 90 tons per hectare.

Technical specifications

Microalgae strains are selected based on their high carbon fixation rates, surpassing those of terrestrial plants. The technology involves a phased implementation starting with upstream process optimization at a pilot scale, using a proprietary high throughput system. This system tests 18 microalgae strains across 1800 parameter permutations to optimize inputs like flue gas quality and CO2 concentration. The process progresses through photobioreactor procurement, site preparation, and scale-up to commercial facility levels. Key features include rapid microalgae growth rates and the ability to sustain continuous CO2 capture aligned with industrial emission patterns.

Technology readiness level

The technology is currently at TRL 4, with plans for further validation through phased process optimization and scale-up. Phase 1 focuses on pilot scale optimization, while Phase 2 and 3 aim at demonstration and commercial scale facility expansion, respectively.
