A cost-effective dual-camera system using color and NIR imaging for real-time monitoring of plant health in greenhouses, enhanced by machine learning analysis.

Overview

The Mobile Dual-camera System offers an innovative approach to monitoring greenhouse plants by utilizing a pair of color and near-infrared (NIR) cameras mounted on a moving rail. This system captures comprehensive data on plant health and status through various vegetation indices, such as the Visible Atmospherically Resistant Index (VARI) and the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). With the integration of machine learning (ML) analysis, this system facilitates real-time assessment and informed decision-making, optimizing crop growth management in large-scale greenhouses.

Technical specifications
  • Dual-camera setup: Incorporates both color and NIR cameras to capture detailed imagery of plants.
  • Mobile rail system: Allows for efficient data collection across large greenhouse areas, reducing hardware costs compared to static systems.
  • Vegetation indices measurement: Supports indices like VARI, TVI, and NDVI, essential for evaluating plant health.
  • Optional fluorescence chlorophyll analysis: Employs modulated light sources to study chlorophyll fluorescence, providing insights into plant stress.
  • Machine learning integration: Analyzes time series image data to assess plant status accurately, enhancing decision-making processes.
Technology readiness level

The system is currently at Technology Readiness Level 3, having completed initial design and testing phases. Future validation includes extensive experimentation and data collection at the Czech University of Life Sciences, Prague, followed by ML model training and accuracy validation.
