Company

Provides biodegradable microencapsulation technology that uses plant proteins to protect hydrophobic actives such as essential oils under varying conditions. The approach improves stability, extends shelf life, and enables tailored release profiles. Suitable for applications in agriculture and consumer goods, including formulation of fortified drinks and stabilization of fragrances for homecare and cosmetics.

Overview

Biodegradable microencapsulation technology designed to enhance the stability and effectiveness of active ingredients. Using food-grade plant proteins, the technology forms a protective shell around hydrophobic actives, such as essential oils with pesticide and herbicide properties. The primary value proposition is safeguarding actives against environmental factors and enabling tailored release profiles, supporting agricultural and consumer goods applications.

Technical specifications

The encapsulation process creates stable microcapsules capable of protecting active ingredients across a range of pH levels. The microcapsules have been tested for stability, showing resistance to UV degradation and compatibility with processing techniques such as flash and high-pressure pasteurization. The technology supports customization of release profiles, enabling controlled release through chemical, mechanical, or environmental triggers. Demonstrated applications include fortifying drinks with Vitamin D and stabilizing fragrances for homecare and cosmetics.

Technology readiness level

Currently at Technology Readiness Level 5, the technology has been validated through in-house stability tests and is ready for further development and real-world trials. Future validation will involve iterative testing of encapsulation parameters to optimize cargo loading and release properties, with upcoming trials to confirm performance under practical conditions.
