A novel mucoadhesive bilayer strip designed for overnight gingival application, delivering curcumin and omega-3 fatty acids. It extends contact time beyond traditional rinses and gels, targeting inflammation with a sustained-release mechanism. The strip's formulation can be customized to include partner actives.

Overview

The mucoadhesive strip represents a breakthrough in gingival care, offering a sustained, overnight delivery system for anti-inflammatory agents. Unlike traditional rinses and gels, this bilayer strip adheres securely to the gingiva, ensuring prolonged exposure to its active ingredients—curcumin and omega-3 fatty acids. These compounds work synergistically to suppress inflammatory cell proliferation, addressing gingival inflammation effectively.

Technical specifications
  • Bilayer Design: Features a mucoadhesive layer for secure attachment and an active layer for delivering therapeutic agents.
  • Active Ingredients: Curcumin with omega-3 fatty acids, proven to act synergistically on inflammatory cells.
  • Customizable Formulation: Capable of incorporating partner-specific actives like CPC or stannous fluoride under appropriate IP terms.
  • Retention: Demonstrated retention beyond 1 hour; targeting 4-hour and overnight retention.
  • Compatibility: Nanofiber material used is biocompatible and safe for oral use.
Technology readiness level

Currently at TRL 4, the strip has shown promising results in initial retention tests and in vitro studies. Future phases aim to validate overnight retention and clinical efficacy through structured trials and partner collaborations.
