The proposed multi-spectral sensor system is designed to enhance the quality of blow molded products by detecting and correcting defects such as cold stretching pearlescence and heat haze. These defects are primarily caused by temperature imbalances during the reheating phase of blow molding. By integrating advanced thermal imaging and sensor technology, this system captures detailed thermal profiles of preforms, enabling early detection of deviations and initiation of corrective measures.
The system is currently at Technology Readiness Levels 3 and 4, focusing on understanding and validating the thermal profiles and rectifying anomalies in a controlled lab environment. Future stages involve progressing to TRL 5 and 6 with pilot plant installations and real-world validation, eventually moving towards production readiness at TRL 8 and 9.
