A novel approach using nanoencapsulation of DHA and curcumin with lysophospholipids to prevent Alzheimer's-related blindness. This technology enhances DHA absorption and curcumin's anti-inflammatory benefits, potentially preserving vision in AD patients.
This innovative technology focuses on the nanoencapsulation of Omega-3 fatty acids (DHA) and curcumin using lysophospholipids. The solution aims to prevent Alzheimer's disease-related blindness by enhancing the bioavailability and efficacy of these compounds in the retina. While DHA is critical for visual function, traditional supplements like fish oil have failed to improve retinal DHA levels. By utilizing lysophospholipids, this approach significantly enriches retinal DHA. Coupled with curcumin's anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, the nanoencapsulation offers a promising strategy for preserving vision in Alzheimer's patients.
This technology is currently at Technology Readiness Level 2 (TRL 2), indicating that the concept has been formulated and the potential benefits of the nanoencapsulation approach have been identified. Preclinical studies are underway to collect data necessary for future clinical trials aimed at evaluating this novel therapeutic approach.
