Company

MercuryLab is a premier engineering consultancy specialising in the simulation, troubleshooting, and optimisation of complex particulate and multiphase flows. Backed by decades of dual academic and industrial experience, we deliver mechanistic modelling solutions that keep your production lines moving efficiently.

In modern manufacturing, unexpected bulk-handling pitfalls stall production and drain capital. MercuryLab eliminates the guesswork. We specialise in virtual prototyping using advanced particle-based numerical methods like DEM. By leveraging and expanding powerful open-source code, we develop bespoke, highly accurate simulation models of your industrial mixing, transport, and flow processes—without the overhead of proprietary software constraints.

We look beyond quick fixes to build lasting value. While we readily accept targeted, Fee-for-Service consulting projects to solve immediate operational headaches, we aim to establish stable, long-term partnerships with prospective clients to act as an extension of your engineering and R&D teams.

Our Core Competencies include identifying and mitigating complex flow and mixing issues, rapidly optimising system designs via 3D numerical modelling, and lowering operational risks and accelerating time-to-market.

Partner with MercuryLab to unlock unlimited computational insights, reduce running costs, and bring your industrial processes into the future.

About MercuryLab

MercuryLab is a Netherlands-based technology company that provides specialized virtual prototyping software and consultancy services for the design, optimization, and analysis of industrial particle-handling systems. Founded in 2015 as a spin-off from the University of Twente, the company leverages the advanced open-source simulation code MercuryDPM to model complex industrial processes, including mixing, segregation, and powder rheology. Their technical approach integrates advanced algorithms for large size distributions and non-spherical particles, combined with experimental validation techniques, to deliver more accurate and efficient results than traditional prototyping methods.

The company serves industrial clients by helping them accelerate product development, reduce costs, and improve system performance through simulation-based insights. In addition to software tools like their MercuryCloud platform, MercuryLab offers technical consultancy and intensive training courses on discrete particle simulations and software development. Their solutions are used across various manufacturing sectors, such as powder packaging, to address challenging engineering problems and optimize production lines. By bridging the gap between academic expertise and industrial application, MercuryLab provides actionable data that enables partners to refine complex material behavior and physical interactions in real-world equipment.
