Innovative hybrid coating system using PVDF, PDMS, and TiO2 nanoparticles to create durable, non-adhesive surfaces for polyisocyanurate foam plates, maintaining performance at high temperatures and eliminating the need for release agents.

Overview

The proposed solution is a cutting-edge hybrid coating system designed specifically for polyisocyanurate foam manufacturing plates. This system combines PVDF (Polyvinylidene fluoride), PDMS (Polydimethylsiloxane), and surface-modified TiO2 (Titanium dioxide) nanoparticles to achieve a non-adhesive, durable surface that withstands continuous operation at 200°F. The integration of these materials creates a synergistic effect that addresses the primary challenges in foam production, such as minimizing adhesion and reducing the need for costly and repetitive release agent applications.

Technical specifications

Key features:

  • PVDF: Offers excellent chemical resistance and thermal stability up to 300°F, ensuring longevity and minimal degradation.
  • PDMS: Provides a low surface energy and flexibility, contributing to the non-adhesive properties.
  • TiO2 Nanoparticles: Enhances mechanical durability and creates a hierarchical surface structure, further reducing adhesion.

The coating system is being optimized through various stages, including the development of surface modification protocols and spray coating parameters, to ensure uniform application and maximum performance.

Technology readiness level

The technology is currently at TRL 3, having reached the experimental proof-of-concept stage. The future validation plan includes coating development, property characterization, manufacturing integration, and long-term durability testing under actual production conditions, with the aim of advancing to higher TRL levels through rigorous testing and optimization.
