Innovative one-step process utilizing special additives and high melt-filtration to reduce color and improve quality of recycled HDPE. This approach enhances rheology and mechanical performance, while lowering costs and energy consumption.

Overview

This solution introduces an innovative one-step process designed to significantly reduce color in recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) by utilizing specialized additive systems and high melt-filtration. The approach not only improves the aesthetic quality of the recycled material by addressing polymer degradation and contaminant filtration but also enhances the material's rheology and mechanical performance. Implementing these strategies within the same process reduces the thermal history of the material, resulting in lower overall production costs and energy consumption.

Technical specifications

Key features:

  • Special Additives: Customized one-pack additives prevent thermal degradation, thereby reducing color formation.
  • High Melt-Filtration: Optimizes removal of unmolten particles and contaminants that contribute to color.
  • Pilot Scale Testing: Conducts material analysis, experiments with additive systems, and combines optimized processes at pilot scale for immediate evaluation.
  • Scalable Implementation: Designed for seamless transfer to industrial production facilities for wide-scale adoption.
Technology readiness level

This technology is currently at Technology Readiness Level 4, having been validated at a pilot scale with further plans for industrial implementation. The process has undergone extensive analysis and testing to ensure effectiveness in reducing color in recycled HDPE.
