Violett offers a portable air disinfection unit that combines UVC light with HEPA filtration in a patented cyclonic air chamber to destroy airborne viruses. Independent third-party testing shows it clears aerosolized virus 15 times faster than leading hospital-grade units, with fully enclosed UVC and zero ozone output for safe use in occupied spaces.

Overview

Violett is a portable air disinfection unit designed to destroy airborne pathogens, including SARS-CoV-2, in occupied indoor spaces. Developed during the pandemic to address the lack of effective solutions for protecting workers in tight or shared environments, the system combines UVC germicidal light with HEPA filtration in a single, integrated air-handling platform. The product targets high-risk settings such as healthcare facilities, elder care, and skilled nursing environments, where rapid and continuous air cleaning is essential.

Technical specifications

The effectiveness of UVC light depends on two variables: dose and intensity. Violett maximizes both through a patented air-handling design.

  • Highly reflective chamber: The internal UVC exposure chamber is coated with a highly reflective material so that nearly all emitted UVC light is retained and directed onto circulating air rather than being absorbed by the chamber walls.
  • Cyclonic air path: A patented shape and fan configuration create a cyclonic airflow that extends the residence time of air inside the UVC chamber. The effective exposure path is comparable to passing air through a semi-truck bed lined with UVC emitters.
  • Integrated HEPA filtration: HEPA media captures larger particles such as dust and pollen, complementing the UVC destruction of biological contaminants.
  • Safety design: All UVC light is fully enclosed within the unit, and the system produces no ozone, making it safe for continuous operation in occupied rooms and providing real-time disinfection.
  • Validation: Independent third-party trials using MS-2 bacteriophage, a recognized surrogate for SARS-CoV-2, demonstrated that Violett clears aerosolized virus from a test chamber 15 times faster than top hospital-grade units currently on the market.
Technology readiness level

The portable air disinfection unit is commercially deployed and currently in active use in patient rooms across elder care and skilled nursing facilities in Washington state. Safety and efficacy have been independently verified through third-party testing. The next development phase targets scaling the core UVC chamber technology into larger HVAC-integrated solutions for whole-building applications, while maintaining the portable unit as a targeted solution for older buildings and high-risk populations.
