A promising approach using engineered bacteriophages to target Fusobacterium nucleatum, a bacteria linked to oral health issues and colorectal cancer, through Phage Display methodology for personalized treatments.
Phage therapy offers a cutting-edge solution for managing Fusobacterium nucleatum, a bacterium implicated in oral health problems and colorectal cancer. By leveraging the natural bactericidal properties of bacteriophages, this approach aims to engineer phages that specifically target and eliminate F. nucleatum. Utilizing Phage Display methodology, peptides are screened and used to enhance phage attachment and efficacy, paving the way for tailored treatments for individuals with gum diseases caused by various bacteria.
Currently at TRL 3, the technology is at the experimental proof-of-concept stage. Validation is planned through a series of steps, including molecular engineering and testing in bacterial culture systems and periodontal organoids, to ensure efficacy and safety before moving to higher TRL levels.
