Company

Fiborizon Technology offers a patented nanocellulose coating that controls urea release by reducing leaching. This coating forms ultra-thin films on urea particles, which swell to slow dissolution, improving nutrient efficiency and minimizing environmental impact.

Overview

Fiborizon Technology introduces a groundbreaking solution with its phosphorylated nanocellulose coating designed for controlled release of urea. This innovative coating significantly reduces urea leaching into the soil by forming ultra-thin, moisture-responsive films on urea particles. The technology allows for tailored release rates by adjusting the film thickness, offering enhanced nutrient efficiency and reduced environmental impact.

Technical specifications
  • Nanocellulose Composition: Composed of nanoscopic fibrils, 3 nm in diameter, functionalized with phosphate moieties.
  • Coating Mechanism: Forms ultra-thin films on urea particles that swell upon contact with soil moisture, reducing water flow and urea leaching.
  • Release Control: The release rate of urea is adjustable by varying the nanocellulose coating thickness.
  • Empirical Testing Results: Uncoated urea dissolves in less than 1 minute, while 1% coated urea dissolves in about 3 minutes, and 5% coated urea in approximately 15 minutes.
Technology readiness level

Currently at TRL 4, the technology has undergone empirical testing and is set for further validation. Future activities include nanocellulose production, coating optimization, and comprehensive performance testing to advance the technology readiness level.
