Parallel Health is pioneering a precision bacteriophage therapy designed to target and eliminate pathogenic bacteria in the canine oral microbiome, specifically addressing causes of periodontal disease in dogs. Unlike broad-spectrum antimicrobials, our phage therapy is strain-specific, reducing risks of resistance and preserving beneficial microbiota. This novel approach is based on our success in human dermatology and aims to provide an effective, owner-compliant alternative to traditional dental care methods for dogs.

Technical specifications

Our proprietary phage discovery and formulation process leverages a comprehensive database of over 10,000 microbial strains and extensive genomic data. Phages targeting key canine oral pathogens such as P. gulae and A. canis are isolated, characterized, and formulated into stable delivery forms such as treats, water additives, or gels. The process includes whole-genome sequencing and host range analysis to ensure efficacy and safety, with formulations optimized for specific delivery methods like lyophilized powders, gels, and liquid additives.

Technology readiness level

Currently, the technology is at TRL 3, having completed early-stage discovery and characterization. Future phases involve in vitro validation, safety assessments, and pilot efficacy studies, leading to GMP manufacturing scale-up and commercialization.
