Company

Utilizing Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) technology, this solution offers precision nanoscale coatings for VMS tablets to control nutrient release, reducing gastrointestinal discomfort and enhancing nutrient delivery.

Overview

This innovative solution provides a method for controlling the release of nutrients in VMS (vitamins, minerals, and supplements) tablets by employing Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) technology to apply nanoscale coatings. The approach aims to mitigate gastrointestinal discomfort caused by the rapid release of nutrients when consumed on an empty stomach. By ensuring a controlled and gradual release of ingredients, this technology enhances the delivery of nutrients while aligning with the body's metabolic capacity.

Technical specifications
  • Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD): Utilized to apply nanoscale coatings with precise thickness control (5 to 50 nm) on VMS formulations to modulate nutrient release.
  • Temperature Control: Conducted at 45°C to maintain ingredient integrity and bioavailability.
  • Scalability: ALD process is scalable for commercial applications, capable of processing tons of formulations.
  • Coating Characteristics: The coatings are generally recognized as safe and meet regulatory standards, ensuring uniform and conformal coverage.
  • Analysis Techniques: Scanning and transmission electron microscopy used for thin-film characterization to assess coating thickness and uniformity.
Technology readiness level

Currently at TRL 4, this technology has been validated in a lab environment. Future validation plans include testing dissolution rates and nutrient concentration profiles in simulated gastric fluids, comparing ALD-coated and uncoated formulations, and assessing the scalability of the ALD process for industrial applications.
