Probiocalm is a pediatric oral film combining plant extracts and probiotics for multimodal relief. It provides analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and sedative effects, enhanced with probiotics supporting the gut-brain-immune axis. The film ensures rapid onset and improved compliance.

Overview

Probiocalm is an innovative pediatric oral film designed to provide multimodal relief using a combination of botanical extracts and probiotics. The formulation includes Ginger for analgesic and antihistamine effects, Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice (DGL) for anti-inflammatory benefits, and Jujube for its sedative properties. These are synergistically enhanced with probiotics to support the gut-brain-immune axis, offering a holistic approach to pain relief, inflammation reduction, and anxiety alleviation. The film format is not only palatable but also convenient, reducing caregiver stress and improving compliance among children.

Technical specifications

The core technology involves microencapsulating the active ingredients in mucoadhesive Gelatin Methacryloyl (GelMA) nanoparticles. These are functionalized with Phenylboronic Acid (PBA) to form strong, reversible bonds with the oral mucus layer, ensuring targeted delivery. The film is made from pullulan, HPMC, and chitosan, providing a prebiotic and highly adhesive delivery system. This combination allows for rapid buccal absorption and sustained release, addressing challenges related to onset time and dosing frequency.

Technology readiness level

Probiocalm is currently at Technology Readiness Level 4, indicating that the prototype has been validated in a laboratory setting. The next steps involve optimizing the formulation, conducting pre-clinical validation, and preparing for scale-up and regulatory approval to bring this child-friendly solution to market.
