Company

A modular lab-scale coil coating system replicating industrial conditions, enabling realistic coating performance prediction. Features controllable roller speed, pressure, substrate feed rate, and programmable curing modes. Ideal for rapid screening without pilot hardware.

Overview

The process-accurate coil coating replication system is an innovative lab-scale platform designed to emulate critical industrial coil coating parameters. This system allows for accurate prediction of coating performance by simulating high-speed roller dynamics, pressure, and substrate feed rates. With options for EPDM rollers and programmable thermal or UV curing modes, the platform is ideal for realistic coating tests that bridge the gap between lab tests and production-scale conditions. This technology offers cost-effective, tunable solutions for replicating production settings and includes sensor feedback and PLC control options.

Technical specifications
  • Modular design with interchangeable modules for various substrates and coating types
  • Controllable parameters: roller speed, pressure, substrate feed rate
  • Programmable curing modes: thermal and UV, with potential for EB curing add-ons
  • High-speed simulation: emulates real shear and spreading at speeds over 500 FPM
  • Sensor feedback and PLC control for enhanced process control
  • Predictive capabilities: film thickness, gloss, adhesion, and curing response
Technology readiness level

This technology is currently at TRL 5, indicating that it has been validated in a relevant environment. Future development phases will focus on further validation against experimental data and sponsor-provided data, with the aim of full operational readiness.

About Re-Du Company

RE-DU is a recycling technology company that has developed a patented process for the chemical deconstruction of mixed plastic waste. By breaking down diverse plastic types—such as PET, PC, PU, and PA—into monomers, the company enables the transformation of previously difficult-to-recycle materials into commercially valuable chemical products. This technology eliminates the need for costly sorting of mixed waste streams and offers an efficient, cost-effective alternative to traditional plastic management systems, which often rely on outdated processes that fail to address the majority of global plastic waste.

By providing a scalable solution for chemical recycling, RE-DU aims to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and minimize the environmental impact of plastic pollution in landfills. The company serves as a partner for industries seeking sustainable chemical feedstocks and is contributing to the development of a circular economy. Supported by initiatives like the Innovation Crossroads Award and research collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, RE-DU is positioned to help transition toward a net-zero carbon society by proving that mixed plastic waste can be successfully converted into high-quality, reusable resources.
