The Raman sensor system is an innovative solution designed to provide real-time, label-free molecular fingerprints of soil microbial activity. This rugged, fiber-optic in-soil probe utilizes Shifted Excitation Raman Difference Spectroscopy (SERDS) and operates automatically with minimal manual intervention. It captures detailed molecular data on proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates, essential for understanding soil health and microbial dynamics in agriculture. The integration of Raman-DIP with D₂O allows for quantification of active metabolism. Edge-AI processes spectra into a Microbial Activity Index and performance alerts, which can be wirelessly transmitted to cloud dashboards and digital farming platforms, enhancing decision-making in regenerative agriculture.
The Raman sensor system is currently at TRL 4, with plans to progress to TRL 8–9 through a structured 18-month validation plan. This plan includes technology refinement, field demonstrations, multi-site trials, and system optimization for commercial readiness.
