Company

Utilize Raman spectroscopy with a chemometric model to quantify organo-trialkoxysilane hydrolysis rapidly and non-destructively. This at-line solution offers automated, user-friendly quality control with results in under 5 minutes.

Overview

This innovative solution leverages Raman spectroscopy to rapidly and non-destructively quantify the degree of hydrolysis in organo-trialkoxysilane solutions. By employing a chemometric model, this technology converts Raman spectra into a quantitative hydrolysis index, facilitating at-line quality control. The process is fully automated, requiring no sample preparation, and delivers results in under 5 minutes, making it a reliable, efficient, and user-friendly tool for industrial applications.

Technical specifications
  • Utilizes a 785 or 1064 nm Raman spectrometer in free-space or immersion probe configuration.
  • Tracks changes in silicon center integrity through three vibrational markers: Si–O–C stretch (600–750 cm⁻¹), Si–O–Si stretch (450–550 cm⁻¹), and alcohol peaks.
  • Chemometric model calibrated against ²⁹Si NMR-confirmed samples for accurate hydrolysis measurement.
  • Automated analysis provides a hydrolysis index without spectral interpretation.
Technology readiness level

This technology is currently at a TRL 4, having undergone initial validation phases. Future phases include instrument integration, validation against blind samples, and industrial handover to ensure readiness for practical deployment.

About SKM Instruments

SKM Instruments designs and manufactures custom, compact FT-Raman spectroscopy systems that provide laboratory-grade analytical performance in a ruggedized form factor. Their technology leverages laser-locked calibration and high-throughput optics to deliver consistent, high-precision Raman spectra. By applying principles commonly found in FTIR—such as the Connes’ advantage—these instruments offer enhanced stability and sensitivity for demanding analytical environments. This approach is specifically engineered to improve the performance of chemometric models and spectral library development, providing a reliable alternative to traditional dispersive Raman systems in applications where calibration stability and long-term cost efficiency are prioritized. Their systems are tailored for specialized industrial and research applications, particularly where high laser power density or complex environmental factors present challenges. By offering a robust, application-focused design, SKM enables users to deploy sophisticated spectroscopic analysis outside of controlled laboratory settings while maintaining high data accuracy and reduced calibration maintenance.
