Advanced detection system for Salmonella using selective media in 96 well plates and spectroscopy, offering rapid results in 4-8 hours. Suitable for human sample testing and potential expansion to other bacterial detection.

Overview

Our innovative detection system leverages selective media and spectroscopic methods to rapidly identify Salmonella. Using pre-coated 96 well plates and custom software, the system efficiently differentiates Salmonella from other bacteria based on phenotypic responses, notably propylene glycol utilization and chromogenic substrates. This technology promises rapid detection, with the capability to identify as few as 1 CFU within 8 hours, and 1000 CFUs in just 4 hours, making it ideal for various applications, including human blood and urine sample analysis.

Technical specifications
  • Detection Method: Utilizes 96 well plates with selective reagent substrates.
  • Analysis Time: Capable of detecting 1 CFU in 8 hours and 1000 CFUs in 4 hours.
  • Software: Custom software flags positive results, allowing for automated readout.
  • Sample Capacity: Each plate can handle multiple samples simultaneously, increasing throughput.
  • Differentiation Basis: Relies on phenotypic differentiation via propylene glycol utilization and chromogenic substrates.
Technology readiness level

Currently, this technology is at TRL 4, with a significant amount of validation data available. Future validation plans include developing protocols for pre-enrichment steps and testing on varied matrices, enhancing its robustness for commercial use.

About Spectral Platforms

Spectral Platforms is a biotechnology company focused on developing rapid diagnostic solutions for clinical microbiology. The company has created proprietary technology that detects bacterial pathogens by measuring metabolic markers and redox state changes in clinical samples. This approach aims to bypass traditional, time-consuming culture methods, offering diagnostic results for bacteria presence within 30 minutes. By enabling faster identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST), the platform is designed to provide actionable data for clinicians to initiate effective antibiotic therapy significantly earlier than current standards allow.

This technology is primarily intended for use in triaging patients at risk of sepsis and managing infectious diseases. By providing rapid and reliable results, including AST results for both single and poly-microbial samples, the company seeks to improve patient outcomes and optimize clinical decision-making. Founded in 2010 and based in Duarte, California, Spectral Platforms engages in research and development for the medical diagnostics industry, often working within the healthcare, biotechnology, and life sciences sectors to validate its diagnostic innovations for clinical environments.
