OleoSorb™ offers a novel solution to reduce Total Fatty Acid (TFA) content in crude glycerine to below 0.2% without affecting yield or quality. This multi-component adsorption technology is compatible with existing glycerine production processes.

Overview

OleoSorb™ is an innovative multi-component adsorption technology designed to significantly reduce the Total Fatty Acid (TFA) content in crude glycerine. By lowering TFA levels from typical values of 0.5-0.6% to under 0.2%, OleoSorb™ enhances the quality of crude glycerine while ensuring that the glycerine yield remains unaffected. This technology seamlessly integrates with existing glycerine production processes, offering an efficient and scalable solution for producers seeking to improve product quality.

Technical specifications

OleoSorb™ is comprised of three key components:

  • Calcium Silicate Nanoparticles: These particles have high adsorptive properties, effectively capturing TFA molecules.
  • Carboxymethyl Cellulose: This component forms a gel-like barrier, aiding in the separation of TFA from glycerine.
  • Rosemary Extract Polyphenols: These polyphenols bind residual fatty acids, preventing oxidation and further reducing TFA content. All components are Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) and comply with European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) standards. OleoSorb™ is tested at various stages of the glycerine recovery process, ensuring compatibility and efficiency.
Technology readiness level

Currently at Technology Readiness Level 4, OleoSorb™ has been validated in lab-scale settings. A comprehensive study involving pilot-scale applications is underway to confirm efficacy, cost-effectiveness, and scalability. This study will inform the pathway to full-scale commercial implementation.
