Renutrin is a prebiotic fiber supplement containing mulberry leaf extract and resistant starch. Mulberry leaf blocks the enzyme that breaks down starch to elicit blood sugar lowering effects after meals. Resistant starch (my area of research) is fermented by beneficial bacteria (most are butyrate-producing) to reduce gut and systemic inflammation, improve gut health and function, naturally boost satiety and blood-sugar lower peptides (e.g., GLP-1, PYY), and improve metabolic health. The ingredients in Renutrin are backed by several clinical trials. One area that is understudied is the impact of Renutrin in perimenopausal women on hormone-related symptoms. Resistant starch (the one in Renutrin) improves Akkermansia and Bifidobacteria that help to metabolize estrogen and maintain homeostasis. Also, during perimenopause, gut dysbiosis occurs. Renutrin can have a major impact during perimenopause in alleviating gut-derived and systemic inflammation while balancing hormones, especially estrogens.

Renutrin is unflavored, vegan, FODMAP certified, gluten-free powder supplement taken before or with meals twice daily. Renutrin can be added to any beverage or foods that will not be cooked. It is also free of dyes, fillers, artificial colors or flavors, sugar and sugar substitutes, fat, lactose, or dairy. It is manufactured by a GMP facility in New Jersey (USA).

I developed Renutrin as my line of research has focused on the impact of resistant starch in women on blood sugar and insulin regulation, satiety hormone production, inflammation, and now, estrogen metabolism in perimenopause. I also foresee partnerships with continuous glucose monitoring and gut microbiome sequencing companies.

About Texas Woman’s University

Texas Woman’s University is a mid-sized public doctoral research university with a broad, applied, and student-engaged character, enrolling about 15,500 students across three Texas locations. Its Denton campus offers collaborative research laboratories and microscopy capabilities, while health-science centers in Dallas and Houston place clinical education and research near the Southwestern Medical District and Texas Medical Center. Clinical placements, cooperative education, supervised practica, and partnerships with healthcare, community, government, and business organizations give external partners multiple routes to engage. A centralized research office supports proposals, compliance, funding searches, and grant management. Federal sponsors include NIH, NSF, the U.S. Departments of Education and Agriculture, and the Department of Defense; intellectual-property and commercialization advice supports invention disclosures, licensing, and startup formation.
