Pividl Bioscience's validated platform produces single-component nanocarriers from natural GRAS biomass that encapsulate water-insoluble bioactive compounds without traditional emulsifiers. The technology achieves high bioavailability, tunable zeta potential, and long-term stability, with applications in functional foods, beverages, and nutraceuticals.

Overview

Pividl Bioscience has developed a proprietary platform technology that produces nanobioparticle suspensions of water-insoluble bioactive compounds directly from raw biomass. The platform also generates natural GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) encapsulants from plants, fungi, algae, and microbes that can nanoencapsulate refined lipophilic (fat-soluble) compounds and active ingredients. Unlike conventional encapsulation approaches, Pividl's system does not rely on traditional emulsification technologies or additives, functioning instead as single-component nanocarriers. This simplifies formulation while delivering high bioavailability and antioxidant capacity.

The technology offers formulators a way to incorporate lipophilic active ingredients into water-compatible delivery systems without the stability, toxicity, or additive concerns associated with conventional emulsifiers. Validated across 25 biomass inputs, the platform has demonstrated 97% extraction and 100% encapsulation efficiency, making it a versatile solution for functional food, beverage, nutraceutical, and natural colorant applications.

Technical specifications

Key features:

  • Single-component nanocarriers eliminate the need for traditional emulsifiers, polymers, or viscosity-based stabilizers
  • Tunable zeta potential (the electrical charge on particle surfaces) enables formulation for various pH conditions
  • Particles maintain tight size distributions with polydispersity index (PDI) values below 0.3, indicating uniform particle size
  • Suspensions remain stable for one year at room temperature without degradation
  • Compatible with conventional processing methods including spray drying (up to 160°C) and freeze drying
  • Can be concentrated, dried, and re-diluted without variation in particle size
  • Produced from natural GRAS biomass sources including plants, fungi, algae, and microbes

Validation status:

  • Physical characterization via Zetasizer (a particle-sizing instrument) and electron microscopy confirmed size distribution and morphology
  • Pharmacological equivalence and antioxidant assays performed using spectrometry and chromatographic methods
  • In-vitro testing in human cell-culture models assessed toxicity, growth, bioavailability kinetics, and anti-inflammation molecular pathways
  • In-vivo zebrafish assays evaluated toxicity, tolerance, and bioavailability kinetics
  • Scale-up currently underway from 1 kg / 20 L unit to 100 kg / 1000 L unit
Technology readiness level

The platform has been validated across 25 different biomass inputs and is currently advancing through scale-up from laboratory to pilot production capacity. Next-stage validation includes formulating water-compatible ingredients using partner-specified lipophilic actives, conducting in-vitro and in-vivo safety and pharmacokinetic studies, and demonstrating the ability to produce natural colorants from diverse raw biomass. The technology is positioned for collaborative pilot trials and co-development with industry partners seeking clean-label encapsulation solutions.
