A single rail parallel robot designed for efficient plant tissue sampling in greenhouses, offering high-speed, accurate, and low-maintenance operation. Equipped with advanced sensors and a robotic gripper, it enhances productivity in vertical and horizontal farming systems.
The proposed solution is a single rail parallel robot system designed to enhance plant tissue sampling in greenhouses. This innovative robotic system offers a high level of efficiency, speed, and accuracy by utilizing delta-like robot manipulators mounted on a single rail. The system incorporates multiple cameras, sensors, and specialized tools, making it more effective than traditional serial robots. Additionally, the rail-mounted design offers simplicity, lower maintenance costs, and ease of operation, providing safe and efficient movements across three coordinate axes in both vertical and horizontal farming environments.
Key features:
The technology is currently at TRL 3, indicating that experimental proof-of-concept has been achieved. The development plan includes further validation activities, such as system integration, testing, and optimization, with a complete proof-of-concept design and implementation scheduled within the next year.
NMBU is a comprehensive public research university with about 8,400 students and 1,900 employees, combining broad academic scope with an applied, sustainability-oriented character. Its Ås campus, roughly 40 km south of Oslo, is part of Norway’s leading biosciences cluster and is co-located with NIBIO, Nofima, and the Norwegian Veterinary Institute. Laboratories, experimental facilities, and a modern veterinary building give companies and public-sector partners practical access to research and expertise. Research is supported by the Research Council of Norway, the European Union, and other competitive external sources. Ard Innovation, NMBU’s technology transfer office, supports intellectual property, licensing, commercialization, and startup formation.
