Introducing a smart 3D polarization imaging system designed to detect and classify defects on plastic bottles in real time. Utilizing polarization-resolving imaging and neural network processing, it provides inspection feedback within 0.5 seconds.

Overview

The smart 3D polarization imaging system is an innovative solution for high-speed inspection of defects such as pearlescence and haze on plastic bottles. It integrates advanced polarization imaging technology with band-limited illumination profilometry (BLIP) and deep high-dimensional adaptive net (D-HAN) to achieve real-time detection and classification of defects. This system is capable of providing feedback within 0.5 seconds, enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of quality control processes in the packaging industry.

Technical specifications

Key features:

  • Polarization-resolving imaging: Distinguishes defect types through distinct birefringent patterns, enabling precise detection of pearlescence and haze.
  • 3D surface imaging with fringe projection profilometry: Optimized for high-speed inspection, it maps defect locations effectively, using BLIP technology developed by our team.
  • Neural network-based image processing: Employs GPU-accelerated parallel computing to process and label defects rapidly, utilizing the D-HAN for accurate reconstruction of 3D data cubes in milliseconds.
Technology readiness level

Currently, the technology readiness level is at 3, indicating that active research and development are in progress. Initial validations have been conducted, and further tasks are planned to optimize and expand the system's capabilities. These tasks include testing and optimizing illumination, constructing high-speed projection modules, and validating neural network accuracy through extensive training and analysis. The upcoming months focus on enhancing system coverage and integrating 3D displays for comprehensive defect visualization.
