Superhero Activity Boxes Donated to Children's Hospitals

Characters of Character NFP, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides tools and resources to educators and parents to help children develop nine positive character traits: behavior, perseverance, friendship, healthy habits, manners, respect, responsibility, self-esteem, and kindness. Founded in 2007 by Joni Downey, the organization utilizes a unique approach featuring nine characters, which are available in costume and through educational books and activity kits. By focusing on children from pre-kindergarten through late elementary, the program integrates character development with core skills such as decision-making, social interaction, reading, writing, and fine motor development. The organization's methods were recognized with a National Promising Practice Award in 2005, prior to the formal establishment of the nonprofit entity.

The organization serves to empower children to cultivate strong civic values and resilience, which is particularly relevant in challenging environments like hospital visits. By equipping adults with these resources, Characters of Character aims to nurture positive role models who contribute effectively to society. Over its years of operation, the nonprofit has published more than thirty books and reached thousands of children and families. Its mission-driven work bridges community engagement and education, providing structured support to foster character building in young learners through creative and interactive programming.
