SuperNanoGel offers a sustainable and cost-effective solution for encapsulating hydrophobic active ingredients using nanocelluloses. It stabilizes Pickering emulsions and ensures controlled release, with applications in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and food industries.

Overview

SuperNanoGel is an innovative biodegradable encapsulation material developed by Fiborizon Technology, leveraging the potential of nanocelluloses. These nanosized fibrils, derived from cellulose, are both amphiphilic and capable of stabilizing oil/water interfaces. This makes SuperNanoGel ideal for producing stable Pickering emulsions, which are essential for encapsulating hydrophobic active ingredients in a core-shell morphology. Its ability to create stable emulsions at low concentrations positions it as a cost-effective and sustainable alternative for industries requiring encapsulation solutions.

Technical specifications
  • Material composition: Derived from natural cellulose nanofibrils.
  • Emulsion stability: Achieves stable Pickering emulsions at SuperNanoGel concentrations as low as 0.3%.
  • Encapsulation capacity: Can encapsulate up to 15% of active ingredients.
  • Particle size: Average diameter of 6 μm with a PolyDispersity Index (PDI) of 0.67.
  • Biodegradability: Complies with ISO 17556:2012 standards, achieving >90% degradation in soil at 12°C within 24 months.
  • Production process: Involves cellulosic fiber modification and nanofibril isolation, both patented processes.
Technology readiness level

SuperNanoGel is currently at Technology Readiness Level 4, having undergone preliminary lab trials demonstrating its efficacy in stabilizing emulsions and encapsulating active ingredients. Further validation steps are planned, focusing on emulsion preparation, optimization, and biodegradability assessment.
