Recycled polyester–graphene oxide (GO) composite materials designed for flexible packaging that improves moisture barrier performance while supporting sustainability goals. The approach combines GO with recycled PET and PCL to enhance mechanical and thermal properties, reduce water vapor permeability, and enable controlled degradability. Characterization includes SEM, IR, and TGA, with additional mechanical and barrier testing, and a regulatory pathway focused on non-leaching GO behavior for food-contact use.
Recycled polyester–graphene oxide (GO) composites are developed to improve moisture barrier performance in flexible packaging while maintaining sustainability and compostability. The technology integrates graphene oxide (GO) with recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polycaprolactone (PCL) to deliver improved mechanical properties, controlled degradability, and reduced vapor permeability.
This technology is currently at TRL 4, indicating lab validation and readiness for further development toward commercial viability. Next steps include scaling production and conducting comprehensive regulatory testing to support compliance and market readiness.
Founded in 2023, Ex Seed is a deep-tech food startup from Bulgaria focusing on plant protein innovation. The founders combined chemical engineering expertise with a sustainability ethos to tackle waste from sunflower oil production – a significant industry in Eastern Europe. Ex Seed is part of an incubator program and is gaining attention for promoting sunflower protein as the next big plant protein.
