Our sustainable water management solution for commercial agriculture leverages the unique properties of biochar combined with precision irrigation systems to enhance soil water retention and reduce irrigation needs. Biochar, a carbon-rich material, significantly increases the soil's ability to hold water, making it more resilient to drought conditions. Integrating biochar with systems like drip or micro-irrigation improves crop yield, water use efficiency, and overall soil health, offering a more sustainable farming approach.

Initial greenhouse trials have demonstrated promising results, and the next steps include large-scale field validation in the Western Corn Belt. This phase will involve testing under real-world conditions to measure water savings, crop yield improvements, and economic return on investment, ultimately proving the solution's commercial viability.


About Lambton College
