Company

A novel self-assembling Lyotropic Liquid Crystalline (LLC) lipid matrix that stabilizes high-load volatile compounds in topical formulations, achieving extended scent longevity without synthetic polymers or petrolatum.

Overview

This innovative technology leverages a self-assembling Lyotropic Liquid Crystalline (LLC) lipid matrix, such as Glyceryl Monooleate, to stabilize volatile compounds in topical formulations. The matrix spontaneously forms a bicontinuous cubic phase upon contact with water or oil, reaching the desired viscosity target of 80,000–100,000 cP without relying on sticky synthetic polymers or greasy petrolatum. This thermodynamically stable solution prevents phase separation even under challenging conditions and extends scent longevity by converting rapid volatilization into a diffusion-controlled release.

Technical specifications

The technology utilizes a self-assembling LLC matrix that forms a stable cubic phase, integrating high-load fragrance oils into its lipid bilayers to prevent coalescence at elevated temperatures. The tortuous 3D nano-channels within the matrix modulate the vapor pressure of volatile compounds, following Higuchi kinetics for controlled release. It naturally achieves the desired viscosity, ensuring a residue-free, pleasant skin feel.

Key features include:

  • Thermodynamically stable matrix preventing phase separation
  • Controlled release of volatiles through diffusion in nano-channels
  • Natural viscosity achievement without synthetic polymers
  • Safe for use on individuals aged 2 and above
Technology readiness level

Currently at Technology Readiness Level 4, this solution has been validated through initial phase mapping and viscosity optimization studies. Further validation includes in vitro release testing and accelerated stability studies to ensure scalability and performance in commercial applications.
