Innovative liposomal additives to boost particle adhesion in wet-stage deposition by encapsulating diverse particles, facilitating effective transport and retention on surfaces. Utilizes proven liposome technology with tunable properties for industrial application.

Overview

This solution features a novel use of liposomal additives to significantly enhance particle adhesion in wet-stage deposition processes. The nanoscale lipid vesicles can encapsulate both hydrophilic and hydrophobic particles, ensuring stability in aqueous environments and improving transport to target surfaces. By applying a mild positive charge, the vesicles create an attractive force to typically negatively charged surfaces, while their flexible shell increases contact area, thus preventing particle bounce. This approach improves first-pass deposition efficiency through a capture, seat, and pin mechanism.

Technical specifications
  • Liposome properties: Tunable size, surface charge, and membrane stiffness
  • Encapsulation: Suitable for both hydrophilic and hydrophobic particles
  • Adhesion mechanism: Capture, seat, and pin with reversible adhesive sites
  • Simulation model: ANSYS Fluent CFD model used for predicting adhesion probability and rinse retention
  • Development: Initial operating windows and dosage ranges established via CFD modeling and bench data
Technology readiness level

This technology is currently at TRL 2. It is in the early validation phase, with development focusing on defining particle properties, substrate types, and environmental conditions. A CFD model is being developed to simulate deposition and refine operating procedures for industrial application.
