Company

A novel method using virus-mediated CRISPR/Cas9 delivery through grafting with Nicotiana benthamiana to enhance soybean genetic editing. This approach surpasses traditional methods by improving transformation efficiency and reducing development time for transgenic soybean lines.

Overview

This innovative solution leverages virus-mediated delivery of CRISPR/Cas9 components to enhance genetic editing in soybeans. By grafting soybeans with Nicotiana benthamiana, a compatible model plant, the method facilitates systemic transmission of CRISPR components via viruses such as CsMV, TRV, and ALSV. This technique addresses the inefficiencies of traditional Agrobacterium-mediated transformation, offering a scalable, efficient, and quicker approach to generating transgenic soybean lines.

Technical specifications
  • Grafting Process: Utilizes Nicotiana benthamiana for high compatibility and efficient systemic virus transmission to soybean.
  • Virus Vectors: Employs CsMV, TRV, and ALSV as vectors to deliver CRISPR/Cas9 components, including targeted gRNA, directly to soybean pods.
  • CRISPR Validation: Involves molecular techniques like PCR and sequencing to confirm induced genetic edits and assess efficiency.
  • Scalability: Potential to adapt and apply this protocol to other crops, enhancing its versatility in agricultural genomics.
Technology readiness level

Currently at TRL 3, this technology is at the experimental proof of concept stage. Future validation steps include optimizing grafting protocols, designing virus vectors for stable CRISPR component delivery, and scaling the method for broader crop applications.
