Bogotá’s public botanical garden and recognized research center, with living collections, a regional herbarium, plant-conservation infrastructure, urban forestry expertise, and environmental education. University partnerships connect applied biodiversity research to city-scale green infrastructure.
Bogotá Botanical Garden José Celestino Mutis is a public botanical institution and recognized research center serving Bogotá and the surrounding region, with a civic, applied, and conservation-oriented character. Its approximately 20 hectares of living collections provide ex situ conservation and germplasm resources, while its regional herbarium offers curated reference material and specialized botanical services. Cooperation agreements with universities, scientific networks, and public agencies support applied research, technical assistance, training, and knowledge sharing for urban vegetation management. Funding comes primarily from Bogotá district resources, Colombia’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, and collaborative public-sector agreements. Research, innovation, technology transfer, and environmental education are integrated into the institution’s public mission.
