Public multi-campus university in Eastern Uganda with practical engineering facilities, agricultural field sites, clinical training through Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, and innovation support. Its distributed campus model links applied research with regional industry and government.
Busitema University is a seven-campus public research university in Eastern Uganda, established in 2007 to expand access to higher education and support national development. Its main campus builds on the practical heritage of a former national agricultural mechanization college, while the wider footprint provides field-based settings for applied research, hands-on training, and community engagement. Integration with Mbale Regional Referral Hospital creates a direct clinical-training and health-research interface, and partnerships with public research organizations such as NARO extend access to expertise and shared facilities. Research is supported by Government of Uganda allocations through the national science, technology and innovation system, alongside competitive international funding. A graduate studies and research directorate plus a university-owned commercialization company support knowledge transfer and enterprise development.
