Public physics research centre in Budapest with open laboratories, high-performance computing, the Wigner Data Center, advanced laser and spectroscopy facilities, and international research-infrastructure links. ESA- and CERN-connected technology-transfer channels support industry collaboration.
A national public research centre in Budapest, HUN-REN Wigner Research Centre for Physics brings together more than 200 researchers in about 40 groups across two institutes, combining fundamental and applied work with a strong international orientation. Its open-laboratory model gives external users access to specialized experimental capabilities and supports collaboration with academic, industrial, and large-scale research-infrastructure partners. The Wigner Data Center and scientific-computing facilities add high-performance and big-data capacity for external research collaborations. Funding comes through HUN-REN, Hungary’s National Research, Development and Innovation Office, European Commission programmes, and international partnerships. A dedicated technology-transfer office supports intellectual property, industrial relations, licensing, and commercialization, with links to ESA and CERN technology-transfer networks.
