National Institute of Health

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is a large U.S. federal medical research agency and the nation’s principal public institution for advancing biomedical knowledge. Its Bethesda campus brings together 27 institutes and centers, intramural laboratories, shared research resources, and the NIH Clinical Center, enabling close coordination among laboratory investigation, clinical research, and investigator training.
