Plymouth Marine Laboratory

Plymouth Marine Laboratory is a specialist independent research charity in Plymouth, UK, with roughly 180 staff and an internationally recognised, mission-led character. Its integrated model connects laboratory and field studies with satellite observations, modelling and advanced technology, helping corporate and public partners translate environmental data into operational decisions. Industry engagement is supported by research vessels, long-term observatories, mesocosms, high-performance computing and Smart Sound Plymouth, a real-world testbed for marine autonomy and sensing. PML Applications, its wholly owned commercial subsidiary, provides a route for consultancy, technology development and knowledge exchange. Research is supported by competitive UKRI funding, especially NERC, alongside STFC, EPSRC, BBSRC and Innovate UK.
