British Columbia’s provincial academic health organization, based in Vancouver, combines specialized hospitals, clinical programs, research institutes, clinical trials, and health-system data. University partnerships connect discovery, care, education, and innovation across the province.
PHSA is a large, publicly funded academic health organization serving British Columbia, with more than 960 researchers and a province-wide mandate for specialized care, research, and training. Its hospitals, laboratories, clinical programs, registries, and longitudinal datasets connect corporate R&D teams to real-world care and population-scale evidence. Partnerships with UBC, SFU, UVic, and UNBC link PHSA researchers with faculty, trainees, and academic infrastructure; more than 3,000 trainees gain hands-on experience across PHSA settings each year. Research attracts support from CIHR, the Canada Foundation for Innovation, provincial funders, and other external sources. A Technology Development Office supports IP, contracts, licensing, data and material transfers, and industry collaboration.
