Tata Institute for Genetics and Society (TIGS) is a focused, nonprofit research institute founded in 2017, built to translate genetics and genomics into socially relevant solutions for India. Its Bengaluru base is embedded in the Bengaluru Life Science Cluster alongside NCBS, inStem, and C-CAMP, providing access to shared infrastructure and an active network of academic, clinical, government, and commercial partners. TIGS combines open technology platforms with specialized insectary and greenhouse facilities, while engaging stakeholders early to support practical adoption. Funding is anchored by the Tata Trusts, with competitive public support and collaborations involving India’s Department of Biotechnology, CSIR, ICMR, and ICAR. A dedicated technology implementation function supports evaluation, product development, commercialization, and technology transfer.
